I get it.

That’s why I’ve put this article together to explore everything from

💥How to see who viewed your profile on LinkedIn,

💥Does LinkedIn notify you when someone views your profile, to

💥How to turn off profile views on LinkedIn and

💥How to attract the right set of people and increase your profile view

So grab a cup of coffee and let’s begin!

How to See Profile Views on LinkedIn?

Wondering if you can see who’s viewed your profile without LinkedIn Premium?

All LinkedIn members (basic and Premium) can view who’s viewed their profiles but the extent varies based on your plan and the other person’s privacy preferences.

Here’s how you can see who’s viewed your profile on a basic account:

Click the  “Me” icon and then select “View Profile”.

A LinkedIn screenshot of dropdown options when clicked on Me.

Go down to “Analytics” and click X no. of profile views

A screenshot of LinkedIn's analytics.

Clicking on this will take you here

A screenshot of LinkedIn showing who viewed your profile.

This will give you a clear idea of who viewed your profile.

What are LinkedIn Premium Profile Views?

Here's what you get with LinkedIn Premium for seeing who viewed your profile:

  • Pick dates to see viewers from the last 90 days or more. Premium Business and Career users can see up to a year back.
  • Find important viewers like industry leaders or recruiters. Turn this on or off as you like.
  • See how many people viewed you each week on a chart.
  • Learn where viewers work, what industries they're in, and where they're from.
  • Filter viewers by company, industry, or location.

But remember, even if you’re a LinkedIn Premium user, you still can't see people who look at your profile privately. LinkedIn keeps their info secret.

Are LinkedIn Profile Views Accurate?

LinkedIn profile views need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Though they are generally accurate, sometimes you can notice discrepancies.

So even though it’s deeply satisfying to see a good number of visitors flocking to your profile, in my opinion, don’t take this data very seriously.

Does LinkedIn Send Notifications When Someone Views Your Profile?

Yes. LinkedIn sends a notification when someone views your profile.

They even send an email to tell you who’s viewed your profile.

Of course that would happen only if people aren’t visiting your profile in Private Mode.

When someone turns on Private Mode on LinkedIn other members won’t know when they visit their profiles.

So then

How Does LinkedIn Show Who’s Viewed Your Profile?

Depending on the user’s privacy settings, this is what you can expect to find in your LinkedIn notification:

1. Name and Headline:

You’ll see the person’s name, headline, location, and industry.

2. Private Profile Characteristics:

You might get a glimpse of their job title, company, school, or industry—something like

"VP of Marketing in the Internet Industry" or

"Student at UNC."

The details vary to protect privacy.

3. LinkedIn Member:

Just “LinkedIn Member” is shown on notifications for users who choose full privacy. So no details are shared even after they view your profile.

You can decide how much others see when you view their profile by tweaking your settings in the "Profile Viewing Options" under Settings & Privacy.

On that note

How to Turn Off Profile Views on LinkedIn?

Don’t want people to know you’ve been visiting their profile?

To hide your profile views on LinkedIn, just do this:

Select “Me” on the homepage

Click “Settings & Privacy”

A dropdown showing the settings and privacy option on LinkedIn.

Select “Visibility” and then “Profile viewing options”

A LinkedIn screenshot showing profile visibility options.

Now out of the three options, pick “Private mode”

The button which turns on privacy mode on LinkedIn.

That’s it.

Your changes will be saved automatically.

No one will know you’ve visited their profile.

Now if you want people to notice you more and visit your profile on LinkedIn, the next section is super important for you.

How to Increase Profile Views on LinkedIn?

To stand out and grab more eyeballs, your profile needs to shine.

That means optimizing it for LinkedIn’s search engine.

Look, recruiters use advanced tools, and most won’t dig deeper if your profile doesn’t catch their eye.

So adjusting your profile is going to make a huge difference.

Here’s how you can easily level up:

1. Use a Professional Profile Photo

Your profile picture is the first thing people see.

Keep it professional. No one needs to know if you’re a party animal.

Also stay away from group pics and casual selfies.

Use a clear headshot with good lighting.

If you don’t have a pic that has what it takes then now’s the time to get one done.

Don’t forget your background banner! Add something catchy that reflects your personality or work.

2. Make the Most of Your Banner

Please don’t tell me there’s still a grey rectangle on top of your profile page.

This is prime real estate for your professional journey so make the most of it.

💥Describe what you do

💥Add credibility

💥Build trust

💥Guide people on what action to take once they visit your profile

There’s so much you could do with this space.

3. Update Your Headline and Summary

Your headline isn’t just your job title. Here’s where you tell people WHY you're amazing.

Tell your story in your summary. Don’t leave it blank!

Highlight your skills, achievements, and what you bring to the table. Write it like you’re talking to someone. Keep it clear and avoid jargon.

And most importantly: Use keywords so recruiters can find you.

4. Fill Out the Skills Section

Recruiters often search by skills. The more you list, the better your chances.

LinkedIn lets you add up to 50 skills, but aim for at least 15-20. Include a mix of technical, soft, and general skills.

5. Personalize Your LinkedIn URL

A custom URL is cleaner and easier to share. It also helps with SEO, making you easier to find on Google.

6. Build Out the “About” Section

Use the 2,000-character limit to tell your story.

Who are you?

What do you do?

How do you help others?

Write in the first person. Make it engaging. Think of it as your personal pitch.

7. Keep Your Profile Updated

Don’t let your profile gather dust. Highlight your current role, achievements, and skills. Add volunteer work, certifications, or anything that sets you apart.

8. Expand Your Network

Connect with people, join groups, and start conversations. The bigger your network, the more visible you become.

9. Be Active

Post updates, comment on articles, and share content. The more active you are, the more LinkedIn’s algorithm will work in your favor.

10. Get Recommendations

Ask colleagues or clients for testimonials. They add credibility and make your profile more attractive.

11. Use Hashtags and Tags

Hashtags make your posts easier to find. Tags help you organize connections and target the right audience.

Conclusion: Is Tracking LinkedIn Profile Views Enough?

LinkedIn's "Who Viewed Your Profile" is a great way to expand your professional circle.

Those viewers could be potential clients, partners, or collaborators.

So just knowing who’s viewed your LinkedIn profile isn’t enough.

You need to actively reach out to grow your network and build valuable connections.

Here are some smart outreach strategies to make the most of profile views:

1. Hyper-personalize Your Approach: Craft messages that show you've actually looked at their profile and spent some time to get to know them.

You can even hyper-personalize images like I did 👇

Generic copy-paste jobs won't do. You knew that already didn’t you?

2. Quality Over Quantity: Don't bombard people with messages. Keep it to 2-3 max, or you risk getting reported, or worse, banned!

3. Be Concise: Respect their time with brief, to-the-point messages. Keep it to less than 50 words.

4. Timing Matters: Consider when your outreach is most likely to be well-received.

5. Use InMail Wisely: For connecting outside your network, InMail can be a useful tool.
