Ever dreamed of getting viral?
Not on Instagram, on LinkedIn...
If you answered yes, but still thinking,
“Nah, that’s a lot of work and patience; and I’ve literally tried everything!”
You’re.. somewhat right.
It does take some patience, but it might not be *a lot* of work.
So maybe.. just maybe, you haven’t tried everything.
If you just pay attention to detail, you’ll see how easy it is to get people’s attention these days (within 7 seconds.!)
So, if you’re ready, let’s get you viral on LinkedIn! ;)
But first, let me state some facts:
Why going viral on LinkedIn might not give you the best business results?
Going viral on a social platform like LinkedIn is one thing, and getting B2B leads and growing your business is another.
Getting viral on LinkedIn will get you views and impressions, you’ll gain visibility, you’ll gain followers because people like your content.
You’ll be catering to a larger audience.
But are they ready to purchase from you?
Mostly not.
They’re here because your post or profile went viral, and they find it relatable; that’s it!
So if your goal is lead generation from LinkedIn, you’re better off with slow and consistent growth, towards a more targeted audience.
Audience that knows what they want and trusts you when they are ready to make a purchase.
It’s important that you assess your goals and prioritize them accordingly.
So if you think getting viral is gonna get you leads,
Now let’s get back to our topic...
How to go viral on LinkedIn?
I know you’re thinking, “What’s different here that I don’t already know?”
You’ll have to read to know 😉
I have some really cool tricks up my sleeve that I’m gonna reveal today.
Build a great profile.
Come on, we’re going in 2025.
If you don’t have a good LinkedIn profile to start with, how can you even expect to go viral?
Now, before you hit the back button, hear me out.
I’m not saying to go to Pinterest and look for aesthetics for your LinkedIn profile, no.
LinkedIn is a professional platform, let’s keep it that way guys.
No need to turn it into Instagram and give Meta more reasons to buy it, please.
What you can do is make your profile so professional and relevant to your brand/ work that it’s impossible to just scroll by.
I mean, look at that:
If you can ignore the fact that he’s THE Bill Gates with 35 million+ followers, I’d still trust that the man knows what he’s sharing on LinkedIn.
His profile builds such credibility.
⏩The profile picture is decent and professional.
⏩The cover image is fun and creative, shows exactly what his foundation does, and yet is simple and easy to understand and interpret.
⏩His education and work are up-to-date.
And if we dig deeper, here’s his About & Featured section:
It just looks.. complete and put together, doesn’t it?
Now, you’re not Bill Gates, so you don’t need to copy his profile.
Here’s how you can build yours though:
Done? Great!
Let’s move on to the next step..
Build a sensible network.
So, once you’re done with your LinkedIn profile, your next goal is to build a sensible network.
But wait, don’t just randomly start spamming people with connection requests and messages.
LinkedIn’s watching out and you could get in some serious trouble!
Do your research, and start networking with people who are in your niche; slow and steady.
Why am I asking you to build a ‘sensible’ network?
There's no point connecting with people interested in marine biology if you’re a fashion designer.
Those people will hardly engage with your content; let alone contribute in making it viral.
So, build a network of people who are actually interested in your services.
Schedule posts and be consistent!
You’ve probably heard that you should be consistent with your posting if you want to go viral on social media; giving up is not an option; that’s all true.
(You can post more if you want, it helps the algo.)
Leave at least 10-20 comments daily on relevant (and popular) posts to get some attention.
And do you know what else matters a lot?
Timing!
Again, do some research and see when your target audience is most active on LinkedIn.
More audience at the time you post = More visibility = More engagement.
For example, on weekdays, it’s mostly from early morning to afternoon.
Internet tells you a lot of things, but make sure you check out when your audience is most active.
You also need to know (and I mean, NEED to know) when your audience LEAST engages with your content and avoid posting around that time (obviously.)
Before you try to hit the back button again, thinking,
“I already knew all this, it doesn’t work. I tried. I was here to know how to make a post go viral on LinkedIn!!”
I had to make sure your foundation was strong.
We’re getting there..
Create content that matters!
See?
We’re here!
Ever noticed this sidebar on your LinkedIn feed?
See the number of readers interested in knowing and talking about these topics?
Ofc, not everything is gonna be relevant, but this is just one example of getting all the hot topics on LinkedIn in one place.
The good news is: Once you have all the trending topics your readers are interested in, you can start talking!
The bad news is: You’ll have to do some more research to find the ones that are relevant for your niche.
Now let’s understand HOW your content will be able to make a difference.
- Learn to provide value.
It’s like trading.
You give something (lead magnets) to get something (likes, shares, comments.)
Now you’re not the only one who knows this, so your lead magnets will need to be something your audience really needs help with, you know…
You gotta hit a nerve here.
- A lot depends on structure.
Your post structure.
Thanks to Instagram, TikTok and GenZ (and maybe Covid,) people’s attention spans have become reaallyyyyy short.🤏🏻
So if your post doesn’t catch their attention the right way, someone else’s will.
So, how to make your post catch “attention”?
✅A great hook.
✅Social proof (if the hook claims anything.)
✅Value proposition.
✅Calls-to-action/Calls-to-engage.
✅Media proof.
But can you see there’s a problem here…
No?
I’ll tell ya..
Like I mentioned earlier — getting viral can get you views, maybe not a lot of business.
So, to change that maybe to definitely, here’s what you can do:
➡️Target a problem that MOSTLY your audience has, and write and create lead magnets about them.
If you need help with that, you can try out SalesRobot’s AI lookalike feature that helps you find prospects who resemble your best customers.
This helps you look for, understand, and target only relevant people.
Once you start warming up with them and stalking their profiles, you’ll know how to get through to them + LinkedIn will algorithm you to their feed and vice-versa.
You know what I’m sayin’?
➡️Use the hook to get them to notice.
➡️In between all of it, remember to build a connection first (by targeting real problems.)
Trust me, there are a lot of problems you can solve right now.
Now, all of this is pretty much doable by most people.
What makes the difference is: YOU.
You, your creativity, and your authenticity make your content unique.
How efficiently can you hook your audience?
And that’s it for the content.
Yayy!
*Was it really that easy?*
If you’re not getting the engagement you want, there are three things you can do about it:
👉🏼Read your content: You’re not writing for yourself or your brand; you’re writing for your audience.
Be your own audience.
Think about them to think like them!
👉🏼Provide good quality lead-magnets: If you’ve promised them a discount, an offer, a list, etc., for free, give it for free!
Stop gatekeeping or asking for their emails, mobile numbers, or even make them fill out a form!
👉🏼Stop with the fluff: Please keep the technical jargon for yourself and use simple language when sharing any piece of content on LinkedIn.
The easier it is to understand for everyone, the better!
SEO is your best friend.
Did you know that?
SEO actually helps your content pop up at all the right places at the right time if used correctly.
But the downside is: there isn’t any one rulebook for it.
You *NEED* the right keywords/ hashtags, which means:
LinkedIn’s algorithms are constantly evolving like any other social/ search platform.
So if you wanna know how to leverage LinkedIn SEO correctly: here’s your guide.
And at last: DO NOT GIVE UP.
Conclusion
I’ll admit it does take some work on your part, and it isn’t for everybody.
Going viral on LinkedIn does take some trial and error.
But hey, if you want it, you’ll do it.
You may or may not succeed on the first try itself, but in the end, it’ll be worth it.
If you’re doing everything right, your content and profile will gain visibility sooner or later.
And you do need to have a gameplan *after* you’ve become viral on LinkedIn.
